Karlene “Honey” Turrentine
Karlene is committed to building community through personal service, corporate responsibility and government caring. She has served hundreds of businesses over the years, from startups to multi-million dollar ventures, and continues to assist CEOs, shareholders, division directors and department heads through most anything that affects their businesses, i.e. acquisitions and mergers, liability traps, employment disputes, procedural pitfalls, and everything in between - working hard to avoid litigation when possible and fighting hard in court for her clients when litigation cannot be avoided.
Further, because employment law is such a big part of doing business, Karlene handles employment cases for both employers and employees. She firmly believes being able to fight on both sides of the issues makes her a better lawyer for all. Of course, business includes non-profits and Karlene has spent many years assisting community nonprofits in getting established, funded, and staffed to enhance the communities they serve and at the same time lessen the burden on government to provide those same services. In addition, having been the County Attorney for Warren County for several years, she continues to serve other governmental agencies in all areas of local government and administrative law. Karlene is passionate about resolving disputes in a manner amenable to preserving relationships, whenever possible. Nevertheless, as a lawyer, she is diligent and tenacious in representing her clients.
Besides being an attorney, Karlene is a 3rd generation missionary (on both sides of her family). As such, her heart is solidly based in missions work whether near or far. She has been part of several missions trips to Israel, Haiti, Sierra Leone and Ghana, West Africa and; to that end here at home, Karlene is very active in her community, serving as music minister in her church, offering her time as a volunteer and contributing free legal services and consulting to several churches and nonprofit organizations.
She is especially proud to be a member of the Wake Forest Rotary Club and was chosen Rotarian of the Year for 2017-18.
In 1996, Karlene graduated from North Carolina Central University magna cum laude and from NCCU School of Law (in 1998), completing both programs in 5 years while working full time all but one of those years. She still stands by that "get-er-done" work ethic.
Karlene is the happy wife of Pastor Andre L. Turrentine (Shepherds in the Field), mother of three grownup children and one surprise, and "Honey" to her first grandchild and all her friends. Karlene is also an accomplished author having published her first book in 2004, A Safe Place. She lives with her family in Wake Forest.
